Speed golf...blogging

In which golf101 attempts a personal best time for a post...

I seem to have been pushed for time this month when it comes to writing the next blog piece.

Keen to post again before February is over, but still packing a full schedule of stuff 'to do', I have decided the only thing for it is a bit of ‘speed blogging’.

So from a Starbucks on the outskirts of Stockton on Tees I have assigned the next 32 minutes (until my laptop clock says 09:00) to post…

Here goes…

War in Ukraine

golf101 can’t let this week pass without referencing the 24th February as the one year anniversary of the war in Ukraine. It is still hard to comprehend that there is a full scale war in Europe…one that doesn’t show any signs of a peaceful conclusion soon…

John Motson RIP

Very sad to hear of the passing of legendary football commentator John Motson on 23rd February.

It was 51 years ago this month (5 February 1972) , when Motson had his big breakthrough, commentating on the FA Cup replay between Hereford United and Newcastle.

Newcastle were big favourites for the tie but Hereford won on a ploughed field of a pitch, in part thanks to a thunderbolt of a shot by Ronnie Radford.

Motson's commentary was so pitch perfect that it helped secure him his first long term contract with the BBC and ensured he started picking up higher-profile games on a regular basis.

He joins the celestial pantheon of commentating greats such as Brian Johnston, Murray Walker, David Coleman, Bill McLaren, Peter Alliss...

Will the World NO.1 golfer please step forward?

Jon Rahm's win at The Genesis Open last weekend was his fifth victory in his last nine starts.

An astonishing run of form that is reminiscent of Tiger Woods in his hey day...and as the great man was hosting the tournament, he was on hand to witness Rahm's rise to the No 1 spot.

And that makes it three different players wearing that mantle in the last three weeks.

Scheffler, McIlroy and Rahm...it's going to be fun to watch these three go head to head this season.

And as I glance at the clock, that's my time up...

...just time to squeeze in a 'Happy Birthday' wish to Dan and Ellie...saying goodbye to their teens on Monday.
